Stevens & C° has a long tradition in softwoods
Based in the port of Antwerp, Stevens & C° is a family owned company with a long history dating back to 1936. Today the third and fourth generation are in charge. Nevertheless our focus remains softwoods, but with attention for product innovation and the environment.
The company "Etablissementen Stevens & Co" is located in the heart of the portof Antwerpsince 1936.
With our offices inAntwerp’s city centre and our storage warehouses located centrally in the port (on the right bank of the historic Albert Dock) we offer our customers a rapid, high-quality transport solution.
For over 80 years, Stevens & C° is specialised in the import of softwood. This specialisation is a limitation we have consciously placed on ourselves. When you buy from Stevens & C° you know we have a thorough knowledge of the material. It also allows us to keep a wide range in stock, thus providing our customers an optimal service.
Through our specialisation in softwood, we are one of the few companies that still grades wood by hand.
For over a hundred years, the name Stevens has been associated with lumber. Cyriel Stevens Sr. was already active in the sector at the end of the 19th century, importing wood via Terneuzen. His son, Jan Stevens Sr. earned his spurs in the business at theAntwerpwood importer De Brouckère and established Houtimport Stevens in 1936. Before the war, the first warehouse was built alongside the Scheldekaaien wharves opposite the former dry docks. After the war, more warehouses were constructed, which were still used until a few years ago.
In 1946, Cyriel Stevens started a third generation. His brother, Joseph Stevens, joined him in 1950. During the post-war reconstruction years, the firm expanded its activities. In addition to Scandinavian and American softwood, after the war Stevens & C° also tapped Canadian and Russian wood sources. Since then, our offices have been based inAntwerp’s city centre, a stone’s throw from the cathedral.
In 1972, Cyriel Stevens’ daughter, Monique Stevens, joined the company and her brother, Jan, the current manager, in 1975. The family tradition is being continued by Jan’s daughter, Ann Stevens.
Our customers are mainly wholesalers and importers in Belgium and abroad.
