Installing Thermowood: what do you need?

It is impossible to imagine the streets without ThermoWood. Everywhere you go, you will see beautiful facades finished in ThermoWood. Smart, because it offers more than just aesthetic value. It is also a sustainable alternative to other cladding. By the way, did you already know that ThermoWood decking boards bring the same benefits?

Whether you use it as siding or decking, the placement rules are the same. But, what do you need for correct installation? The ThermoWood experts at Stevens & C° will be happy to help you get started.

Accessories for installing ThermoWood

ThermoWood shrinks, swells and deforms significantly less due to differences in temperature and humidity. But, that doesn’t mean the wood doesn’t “work. To avoid tension, the wood needs a “pull-out resistance. Provide following nails and wood screws for installation:

  • Torched or ring nails with a length of at least 2.5 times the thickness of the cladding board
  • Wood screws with a length of at least 2 times the thickness of the cladding

To avoid differential moisture at the front and back, provide a drained and ventilated air cavity. It should be at least 15mm wide. Prevent bugs, birds or other insects from entering by sealing your air cavity with a protective grille.

To support your Thermowood, you also need a slatted structure.

Accessories for maintaining ThermoWood

Despite thermal treatment, ThermoWood still takes on a (silver) gray color from exposure to light. Do you wish to preserve or restore the natural color? Then you need oil and maintenance products.

  • Oil or stain to preserve or restore the color of your ThermoWood.
  • Paint to give your ThermoWood a new color
  • Pre-graying if you want to mimic the natural process faster

    Tip: Buy these products in the desired finish from an approved supplier, then you won’t have to oil or paint them yourself.
