Timber importer since 1936

Antwerp-based timber importer Stevens & C° is a family business with a long history dating back to 1936. Today, the third and fourth generations are at the helm. The company still specialises in softwood, while also focusing on innovative products such as ThermoWood®.

Our history

Cyriel Stevens Sr. was already importing timber via Terneuzen at the end of the 19th century and delved into the role of timber broker. His son, Jan Sr., learned the trade at the renowned Antwerp timber importer De Brouckère and laid the foundation for Houtimport Stevens in 1936. Even before the war, the company owned its own warehouses in the Port of Antwerp — a clear sign of growth and vision. After the war, Cyriel Jr. and his family expanded the business. The post-war reconstruction years were golden times for the import of Canadian, American, Scandinavian, and Russian softwood. In the 1970s, his children, Jan Jr. and Monique, took over the leadership. The family story took on a new dimension in 2008 with the arrival of Jan’s daughter. And in 2024, Stevens Hout welcomed a musical addition: Liesbeth Stevens, daughter of Jan Jr. and sister of Ann Stevens, joined the company.

To this day, softwood remains the core product of Stevens Hout. Imported from Canada, Finland, Scandinavia, and the Baltic States, with Russia as a reliable partner.

Our product range

Stevens has both a focus on traditional softwood varieties and product innovation.

We like to think along with our customers and help them through to the final stage. Even if they want a finish in a certain colour or a fire-retardant treatment, we take care of it. We go for full service.

ThermoWood

We want to offer a dignified and ecologically responsible alternative to tropical hardwoods. Thus, we have already included ThermoWood® in our range 10 years ago. We are a major market player in this field. We have more than 12 thermo modified timbers and this in more than 20 sections and more than 40 profiles. We have all of these brut and planed in stock. When someone thinks of ThermoWood®, we want people to automatically think of Stevens. We have also created a website entirely focused on providing information about ThermoWood® en www.THERMenCO.be.

STEICO

Furthermore, Stevenshout is a distributor of Steico products on the Belgian market. This allows us to focus even more strongly on timber frame construction. The Steico range includes I-beams, LVL and wood fibre insulation.

Cedarwood

A separate category is cedar wood imports. This is very capital-intensive. We resell a lot of this through importers in other countries.
We have more than 45 sections available in cedar with even sizes up to 410 x 460 mm.

Softwood

We also have ample buffer stocks of other wood species and grades. The list of timbers we have in stock includes: pine and spruce, western red cedar, Oregon pine, larch, southern yellow pine, hemlock, spruce pin fir, European Douglas fir, pitch pine and ThermoWood®.
